Plowing the field for new crop

Pastor: Orlando and wife Jonnely

Pastor Orlando and his family moved to the village of La Larga to minister to the community and administer a farm.  The farm produces nine crops a year, including rice and beans that are shared with the community, House of Children and Single Mothers.

New on 8/23: The transformer that supplies electricity for their area failed on 8/19. They do not know when it will be repaired. They are without electricity and water. Yet the work continues. Summer Bible School starts on 8/25

This is how they describe how electric blackouts affect them:

“In small rural villages lack of electricity is more problematic. We get maybe 2 hours of electricity per day, not enough time to cook, wash and charge phones or lamps. Lately our blackouts have lasted up to 36 hours.

We use firewood and charcoal to cook. To light our fires, we use nylon, plastic, and paper bags because there is no fuel.

This has made cooking and storing foods a challenge. Our old, homemade fridge can’t keep things cold for long, so food spoils. Now we have to buy what we eat daily—it’s costly and hard to find, with no stores nearby and high prices from local sellers.

We have problems with water extraction because all the houses have electric pumps, which makes it difficult for us to obtain water for daily consumption. washing, cooking and flushing the toilet.

At night, it's quite hot, and there are a lot of mosquitoes. We often go to bed late, waiting for the weather to improve or for the electricity to be turned on in the early morning. We spend all this time in the porch of our house, exhausted from not getting enough sleep and having to get up early for work the next day.”

A 3,000 watt solar energy system will provide sufficient electricity for them to continue their service to the community. Bring energy for life
